Limón Beach is a diamond in the rough located in the northeast of the Dominican Republic. Located in one of the most beautiful regions of the country, Miches, an area very few tourists get to visit. This makes for a very special experience for all willing to explore it’s natural beauty.
An area populated mainly by fishermen and farmers, Miches is home to some of the most beautiful and wild beaches in the country. We begin by visiting Limón Beach, an amazing virgin coastline, full of palm and coconut trees as far as the eye can see. It’s the perfect place to get away from it all and totally disconnect from all civilization. The only buildings in the area belong to a charming ecological hotel which later on provides us with an unforgettable regional style meal.
The rest of our day is spent exploring the waters of the amazing Limón Lagoon, the largest fresh water lake in all the Caribbean. This is truly a place that exemplifies the immense beauty of nature. The lagoon is one of the best places on the island for bird watching. Many of the endemic birds of island frequent the lake, and in the winter months the flow of migratory birds is spectacular. This large protected body of sweet water is also home to a diverse population of fish, some of which sustain the area’s local villages. A relaxing boat ride around the lake allows us to appreciate the flora, fauna, and awesome scenery here. The lake seems to be perfectly nestled between beaches and the “Septentrional” Mountain Range. A truly unique place to visit, and highly recommended for all nature lover’s willing to get off the beaten path a little.
