Rincon Beach – “The definition of paradise”
Our journey takes us to several unforgettable spots, including Rincon Beach, one of the top three beaches in the world, according to Condé Nast Magazine. Rincon Bay was also recently inducted into the prestigious “World’s Most Beautiful Bays Club”. This amazing beach will take your breath away. The lack of hotels or businesses on the shore give it the feeling of being totally wild and beautiful. This is one place you will keep reliving in your mind for years to come.
Los Haitises National Park – “Lush tropical rainforest and wildlife preserve”
Los Haitises National Park is the largest nature preserve in the Dominican Republic. It is home to more than 100 species of birds, and numerous species of mammals that live in the hills, mangrove swamps, and exotic waterways of this 83-square-mile wildlife sanctuary include several rare or endangered species. Some of these being the Ridgeway Hawk, Hispaniola Parrot, the Solenodon (a species more than 60 million years old) , and the Manatee, just to name a few.
Our journey takes on an amazing light hike through the tropical rainforest, the best way to appreciate the diversity in plant and animal life that the park is renound for. We then continue on boat through the richest mangrove preserve in the Caribbean. Around us, its hard not to notice very peculiar land formations, or small compact hills known as the karstic system en geology. These are typical of the region, and are the result of 40 million years of geological upheavals. This type of terrain is only seen in 4 other places on the planet. These limestone hills or “mogotes” contain hundreds of thousands of caves, and underground rivers, mostly unexplored by modern man. We see evidence of indigenous life, as we visit several immense caves containing hundreds of pictographs and petroglyphs depicting Pre-Columbian life on the island, these having been studied by scientist from around the globe. Most of them date back more than 500 years and give us a clear picture of taino indian life before Columbus arrived on its shores.
El Limon Waterfalls – “The Caribbean’s finest”
No trip to Samana would be complete without visiting “Salto El Limon” or El Limon Waterfalls. Many say this is the most beautiful waterfall in all the Caribbean. Nestled deep within the mountains of the Samana Mountain Range, the falls are surrounded by lush green tropical rainforest, and small coco plantations which produce some of the world’s finest chocolate. Our day begins with a pleasant horse back ride along the banks of the Limon River. Our route takes us to several other smaller waterfalls along the way, none as impressive but just as beautiful as the 130 foot high El Limon Waterfall. This is just one of the countless natural wonders that can be found in the Peninsula of Samana.
